CRO & Head of Global Partnerships, TED
Lisa is the CRO and Head of Global Partnerships for TED. In this role, Lisa is responsible for helping fund the company by establishing partnerships with companies who want to instill the TED experiences of story-telling and community-building in their own workplaces. She is co-founder and former chief operating officer of ulive, the premium lifestyle video portal (ulive.com) and distribution network for Scripps Networks Interactive. As COO, Lisa oversaw all operations for ulive as it extended the company’s reach from its core lifestyle categories of food, home, and travel into wellness, parenting, and beauty. Through creating original series, procuring syndicated content, and delivering premium videos across a curated ecosystem, ulive was an all-encompassing digital lifestyle video brand for today’s busy consumer.
Prior to this role, Lisa served as senior vice president and general manager of Digital Media for Scripps, providing an in-depth understanding of the interplay of the various digital platforms — the Internet, social, mobile, video syndication and other emerging media – and how consumers interact with the content, advertising and each other in those spaces. Her responsibilities included category-leading websites FoodNetwork.com, HGTV.com and TravelChannel.com, as well as other digital initiatives in social, mobile, video syndication and other emerging media. She was responsible for setting digital strategy, identifying and growing opportunities on all digital platforms, and working closely with the brands and Scripps Networks International to create new revenue opportunities.
Owens joined Scripps in 2008 as senior vice president, digital partnerships and marketing where she led the development of a strong digital distribution network for Scripps’ leading lifestyle content across multiple platforms. Prior to joining Scripps, Owens served as vice president of new media business development for AMC Networks where she identified and negotiated deals with online and mobile partners, and developed the brand’s multiplatform strategy. She also held strategic marketing roles with wireless software company Aether Systems and the lifestyle media company, XO Group Inc.
Owens holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a graduate of both the Women in Cable Telecommunications’ (WICT) Betsy Magness Leadership Institute and the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing’s (CTAM) CTAM U. Executive Management Program, and currently serves on the Online Publisher Association (OPA) and National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) board of directors.
Owens’ talents and influence have been greatly recognized by the industry. She was named one of the “Most Powerful Women in Cable” for 2010-2012. CableFAX also named Owens to its “Digital Hot List” from 2011-2014, and she has been on CableFAX’s “Most Influential Minorities in Cable” list for six consecutive years. She’s also been recognized as one of Cynopsis Media’s “Most Intriguing People” for 2013 and Multichannel news’ “40 under 40”.
