Dr. Laura Shoots is the Founder and CEO of Take Care, a physician-designed platform that helps families plan for aging, illness, and end-of-life care before a crisis hits. As a frontline ER physician in Ontario, she has seen firsthand the stress families face when plans aren’t in place; a pattern sharpened by the deaths of several of her own family members, and by the pandemic, which laid bare just how vulnerable elderly loved ones can be. Take Care grew out of her drive to ease the conflict and chaos that is so often tied to caregiving and the end-of-life journey.
Shoots holds an MSc in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety from the University of Toronto, teaches at McMaster University, and has held multiple leadership roles throughout her career, driven by a preference for system-level change over band-aid fixes.
Outside of work, she’s a mom of two young children and a proud member of the Canadian Women’s Medical Football Team.
