Linda Hall

Entrepreneur-in-Residence, University of Minnesota Carlson School of Business

Linda is Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the University of Minnesota Carlson School. She’s been a mentor for 28 semi-finalists in the Minnesota Cup since 2009. In that capacity, she has coached CEO’s
from all sectors, including Energy/Cleantech, Food/Ag, High Tech, and Life Science/Health IT.

She has been an executive, director, or advisor with over 100 established companies and startups across multiple industries, including HVAC, multi-family real estate, semi-conductors, venture capital and healthcare. Her experience spans B2C and B2B business sectors, including those with multiple distribution channels. She has launched 3 startups inside $1 billion+ companies. Hall is best known for having launched retail healthcare nationally as CEO of MinuteClinic from 2002-2005 preceding its $214 million sale in 2006 to CVS/Pharmacy. MinuteClinic was named by Forbes magazine as one of the top ten 12 disruptive companies of the decade.

She has 29 years executive experience in manufacturing and service sectors including healthcare, venture capital financing, employee benefits and HVAC. Her private company and public company board experience spans 30 years, having served on 5 NASDAQ and NYSE company boards as well as 6 privately held company boards and 6 start-up company boards. She’s assisted companies in establishing their M&A strategies, participating in both divestiture and acquisition transactions. She’s led or served on boards of companies ranging in size from < $25M – $1.5B+ revenue. A seasoned corporate board member, she also serves as an Expert Witness for cases requiring board governance expertise.

She currently serves on the family-owned Surly Brewing Company board and chairs a start-up company board,
BoundaryCare, a technology solutions serving the dementia and IDD markets. She previously served as a director for 5 public companies: Centerspace (NYSE), HealthFitness Corporation (NASDAQ), August Technology (NASDAQ) until their successful mergers in 2010 and 2006 respectively, MTS Systems (NASDAQ) until 2006 and Amedisys (NASDAQ) until June 2019. She has served on 4 other private company boards, including DentaQuest (acquired by Sun Life in for $2.4 b.), Ascension Ventures, BodyMedia, Laastari and Sagebrush Technologies. She also serves on the 2026 Springboard Enterprise’s Women’s Health Innovation Council. She served on the board of Children’s MN (hospitals and clinics) from 2019-2025 and previously served on numerous non-profit boards including the Science Museum of MN, MN Zoological Society, Youth Mental Health Project and the MN Chapter of NACD.

She served on the 9th District Federal Reserve Bank Board from 1999 – 2005, and as board chair from 2004-2005.

She holds a M.S. in Special Education (Phi Beta Kappa), an M.A. in Psychology, both degrees from University of
Michigan, as well as an M.S.W. and a PhD. From University of Minnesota. Prior to her business career, she worked with troubled children K-12 and their families in Michigan and Minnesota schools for 11 years. She was a national public speaker and published 19 articles in professional journals on successful intervention with troubled youth.

She was awarded 2019 MN Cup Mentor of the Year, NACD 2013 Board Leadership Fellow, Distinguished Alumni by U of M in 2011, Outstanding Director of the Year in 2010 by Twin Cities Business, Director of the Year from Twin Cities Women in the Boardroom 2010, Instrument of Change from KPMG in 2006, 30 People to Watch in 2003 by Twin Cities Business Monthly, and Most Innovative Women by City Business in 2000.
